When you go through the different branches of the genealogy of LECOLLE & LÉCOLLE and reach an issue, or when you analyse the work of other internet-based family genalogists who make mention or did identify some LECOLLE & LÉCOLLE in their own work, you quickly come to THE only obvious question which has some interest : where do we come from ?

The answer to this question is that current research shows that it is easy to answer : we come from 5 different locations in FRANCE and BELGIUM :

The biggest area (as far as the number of branches is concerned) extends from AUXERRE to NEVERS (South of YONNE and North NIÈVRE where we find the branches 89A, 89B, 89D, 89E, 89G, 89H and 89J, and around SENS (North of YONNE) where we find the branches 89C and 89I;

Followed closely by the area extending from VITTEL to RAON-L'ETAPE (in the VOSGES on the border with MEURTHE-ET-MOSELLE) where amateurs of genealogy identified many LECOLLE & LÉCOLLE.

For each of these areas you will find a detailed map and a small abstract on each city.

The work is still going on and I am working on :

The department of MEUSE where we find the branch n° 55A and probably the branches n° 55B and 55C.

The department of OISE where we find the branch n° 60A ;

BELGIUM where we find the branch n° BEL1 ;

After this we will have to deal with the branche 89F, 75A, 75B, 75C and 75D which seam to be located in PARIS.
